About Me
I am a recently graduated UCLA student passionate about the outdoors, relationship building, and conservation. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Public Affairs and a minor in Environmental Systems and Society. Outside of my studies at UCLA, I worked in UCLA Residential Life in various capacities all four years, found a home in various organizations such as the UC Coalition for Reproductive Justice, and played lots of Ultimate Frisbee.
My studies have heightened my interests in the intersection of social, economic, and environmental injustices. I hope to build a life that allows me to work with communities to solve these issues. What that looks like immediately after graduation is pursuing a job in outdoor education and experiential learning. After backpacking in the Sierra Nevada mountains and traveling across California to visit family, I will move to Baltimore in the fall to work with the Chesapeake Bay Outward Bound School as an instructor apprentice to share my love of nature and stewardship with students and become an effective outdoor educator.
Core Values
These are the key values that guide my decision making, leadership style, interest and involvement. While, these values do not fully represent all I care about and believe to be important, they are the main cornerstones of all I do.
Environmental Action
I wholeheartedly believe that climate change is the single biggest problem that my generation must solve. Climate change threatens to degrade the natural spaces that I adore and increase social and economic inequities worldwide. As a society, we must center on environmental conservation practices and begin to create a sustainable future. Personally, I commit to not only centering sustainable practices on a day-to-day basis but centering sustainable practices in my work and leadership capacities.Â
Additionally, I believe that the outdoors should be accessible to every individual. I desire to increase the prevalence of green spaces everywhere, get more individuals outdoors and foster a societal reverence for outdoor spaces.
Restorative Justice
I believe that to enact meaningful and sustainable social change, we should always be working in the frame of Restorative Justice.
While RJ is typically a term used to describe accountability and healing strategies for all individuals and communities negatively impacted by the criminal justice system, we should address all social problems through this framework. Some of the core tenants of RJ are:
Involve victims, offenders, and communities in the process of justice and meet the needs of all affected
Empower Victims and Communities by addressing their needs as they see them and work to create healthier individuals and communities
Seek accountability for all harm caused, not just the defined injustice
Reintegrate and repair individuals
Holistic Wellness
I believe that a healthy society depends on meeting the holistic needs of community members. Individuals should have access to affordable resources to meet their basic needs, such as food, water, housing, and healthcare. Individuals should have the ability to create a healthy mind, body, and spirit. Â
While policy and systematic change can be and should be used to realize this vision, I believe that it can begin to be realized on a community level. I am passionate about creating community cultures that prioritize active engagement, emotional wellbeing, interconnectedness, and mutual support. I desire to bring these principles to every community I am apart of.
